International List and rating of contraceptives
(Product names may slightly vary from one country to another)
| |
|
|
OVERVIEW
The rating below is strictly based on the hair’s perspective. The contraceptives are classified into four categories, depending on the impact they have on the hair’s vitality and the scalp: VERY POSITIVE - POSITIVE - NEUTRAL - NEGATIVE.
If you hair falls excessively, and you are taking a contraceptive that is classified as ‘very positive’ or ‘positive’, that means the loss is not caused by your contraceptive, and you should look elsewhere for its origin. Progestogens (or progestins) are expressed in mg and estrogens in mmg. |

( 1) EVA PATCH, Ortho-EVRA and NUVARING : classified as ‘POSITIVE’ even if the estrogen dosage is <0.30 mg, because it seems sufficient given that the transmission is more direct than by oral intake.
( 2) LEVONELLE and PLAN B : classified as ‘NEUTRAL’ because it is a ‘morning-after’ pill and that their effect is too punctual to be NEGATIVE on the hair.
( 3) QLAIRA : claissified as "NEUTRAL" because the treatment is new on the market, and we currently lack the perspective needed to give an opinion.
