An anti-androgen molecule that neutralises the androgen's actions by inhibiting its links to the hair follicle. Can be combined with a contraceptive pill. At menopause, it can be used as a progesterone-like hormone in hormonal substitution treatments.
Résults. Decreases seborrhea and hair loss,
and favours weak to mild regrowing of the hair in approximately 50% of cases*. But patience is needed because the objective improvement on regrowing hair can only be evaluated after 10 to 12 months of treatment.
Androcur's effectiveness varies highly from one woman to another. Here is a good way to test its effect on you: as of the 3rd or 4th month of treatment, your secretion of sebum should decrease and your hair should be less greasy. If that is the case, it is an indicator of your hair's positive responsiveness to the hormone, and it should motivate you to wait a few more months for results on regrowing hair.
Gender. Women exclusively.
Side Effects. Sometimes:
headaches, gain of weight, heavy legs, fatigue.
Hélène Clauderer's Opinion. We advise it in the case of revealed androgenetic hair loss, as a complement to a local treatment. But not all women can or want to follow a hormonal treatment.
*This success percentage is much higher on women whose androgenetic alopecia is associated with signs of a hyperandrogenetic condition (acne, major seborrhea, excessive hairiness and, especially, irregular or lack of periods).
